Due to the current state of the Puerto Rico Power Grid and recognizing the dependency of the telecommunication components on a reliable and stable power source, the Program aims to assist the ISPs in managing within an outage or natural event the capability of having their own power source to maintain their operation and ensure business continuity with the minimum impact of the loss of internet and telecommunications connectivity to Puerto Ricans.
A pivotal initiative with a primary objective: to establish dependable, robust power systems and fortified infrastructure for essential telecommunications facilities across Puerto Rico. The Program sees that the value added of having a reliable broadband connection can make all the difference in ensuring the safety and well-being of those affected by catastrophic events or major outrage. It is crucial to prioritize the development of resilient power and hardened infrastructure that can withstand these challenges and keep our communities connected, informed, and safe. The program seeks innovative solutions that can support more resilient and redundant networks that can withstand future storms and electrical grid outages, ultimately improving the overall continuity of internet connectivity within Puerto Rico – especially in times of disaster. This initiative underscores the critical need to prioritize the development of resilient and hardened infrastructure capable of withstanding adverse conditions, a cornerstone in reinforcing the island's connectivity fabric.
