The governor of Puerto Rico announced the appointment of Michelle Cabiya Zorrilla as the new executive director of the Puerto Rico Broadband Program. Cabiya Zorrila has extensive experience in the area of consumer services, databases, project planning, people management and negotiation, making her a leader with a solid foundation for her roles in program management. “I am extremely grateful for this new professional opportunity, which gives me the opportunity to continue serving all citizens directly. I put all my experience and enthusiasm at the disposal of Puerto Ricans so that, through the efforts made under the Broadband program, we can continue to reduce the digital divide and increase connectivity in homes in Puerto Rico,” said the executive director. Michelle Cabiya Zorrila has a bachelor's degree in Physical Geography, specializing in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), a specialization in Communications from the University of Puerto Rico in Rio Piedras and a master's degree in Project Management from the School of Management of Lancaster University in the United Kingdom. She was a Project Consultant at George Cox & Sons Ltd in Manchester, UK. In this position, he developed experience in consumer services, CRM databases, project planning, people management, and negotiation, establishing a solid foundation for his later roles. Later, he became Sales Customer Success Manager at Workep Inc. in Puerto Rico. Here, he played a crucial role in driving organizational growth by identifying customer needs and closing important deals, resulting in a significant increase in sales and users. In addition to her corporate roles, Michelle demonstrated her entrepreneurial spirit by establishing and managing a start-up hardware and SaaS manufacturing company. Specializing in the development of IoT access control solutions for gated communities, this company provided him with invaluable information on business ownership and management. In Puerto Rico, Michelle served as a Project Management Consultant in the Office of Innovation and Technology Services (PRITS). Here, he spearheaded transformative initiatives aimed at improving digital services and operational efficiency. In particular, Michelle led the expansion of the user base of the CESCO Digital application and successfully implemented the VACU ID initiative. In addition, he oversaw the implementation of an ITSM/ITIL framework and strategy within the IT Operations team at PRITS, thus standardizing operations and fostering a culture of innovation within the organization.
